Are you kidding me ….Ben Affleck … the guy who could not pull off playing Daredevil.. You follow up Christian Bale with Ben Affleck. It never ceased to amaze me how Dc/WB can have the greatest characters at their disposal and not know or have a clue as to what to do with them. This has disaster written all over it. If you were not going to go with common sense and bring Bale back, then you really should have gotten someone better than Affleck. Director Zack Snyder expressed "Ben provides an interesting counter-balance to Henry's Superman. He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne. I can't wait to work with him." Sue Kroll, President, Worldwide Marketing and International Distribution, Warner Bros. Picture added, "We are so thrilled that Ben is continuing Warner Bros.' remarkable legacy with the character of Batman. He is a tremendously gifted actor who will make this role his own in this already much-anticipated pairing of these two beloved heroes." All this sounds well right now but let’s see how the studio talking when their numbers aren’t what they expected. Fans worldwide are outranged from this news; reports are that there are online petitions to have Affleck taken off as the Dark Knight.
Ben Affleck is an okay actor, better director than an actor. I have always said there are two characters that are the hardest the cast out of the Justice League , the first Batman, in which you had the perfect Batman in Bale, and Wonder Women( who I feel will be Gina Carano, but who knows they may choose another off the wall person to play that role). Bale’s Batman provided the look the feel the gravity of a story and the supporting cast that sucked you in and was epic; the way his training was explained, how he attained his gadgets was as realistic as you can get, everything he used in the movies exist, which added to the movies strength and realism, but at the same time still retained that comic book feel.
Now in the midst of whatever this movie is suppose to be called Batman vs. Superman(which is incredibly stupid) you will have to make people believe in a whole new Batman they don’t even know, we have not seen his struggles, his trumps, his anything. There is no type of connection. This seems rushed and not thought through. I don’t know who is making these decisions but when all the smoke clears come Summer 2015, when this movie goes up against Avengers 2 and Star Wars IV they are going to regret recasting Batman which will ultimately doom Justice League and any future Batman films. If anything is used from Nolan’s Batman, it will serve once more as a reminder that DC/WB have no clue as to what they are doing. If you are going with a new actor everything from training, gadgets, Alfred, Commissioner Gordon, Luscious Fox needs to be different, which is a waste and uncalled for. With the makeup of the film so far I feel they should make it just as they made the awfully spoof Batman and Robin film from the 90’s with George Clooney as Batman which doomed the franchise until Bale and Nolan’s Batman Begins came on the scene in 2005.
When you hear Batman you think of Bale, it was only a year ago when we last saw Batman take on Bane and rise in the end. The recasting is a mistake and too soon. I do not see Ben Affleck making fans feel his presence, feel his pain and vengeance just as Bale’s Batman. If they tried to get Bale back and he said no, I understand them moving on with a new guy, but not Ben Affleck. This is a movie that I will definitely not see but will continue to keep an eye on what the story will entail, but will pass on come 2015. I guess this is where Netflix comes in handy. When I got messages from friends about this news I truly thought it was a joke maybe another unconfirmed rumor, now that I see that this is really what DC/WB are going with it, I was right this is a big joke, one that would have the Joker laughing hysterically. In the words of Jack Nicholson’s Joker “If you are going to go... go with a smile” which is what Marvel is doing hearing DC/WB’s announcement . Batman/Superman movie has a July 17, 2015 release date.
